A Book of Words and Pictures

“The poems written, and the pictures shared have always been a part of the professional work that I’ve done. I’ve used music, pictures, and poems in my work as a therapist and have been amazed by the level of interaction with adults and youth in their ability to discover the hurt and pain in their own lives and the journey to healing.”

A Sample of Liberating Verses

"The Songs I Could Not Sing" is divided into 5 "Verses" reflecting the phases of the author's life and healing journey. Enjoy a selected poem below from each verse.

VERSE 1: Sharing The Struggles

Is It?

(1970–1972)

Silence through tears can give birth to conversations in the head and screaming in the heart. Is it so wrong for a child to not know how to face her fears?

Is it alright to smile on the outside with fears on the inside? Would it be too strange to hunger and thirst for empathy?

Is it better to keep secrets to preserve a name? Is it? Welcome to Hotel Pain!

Every child should feel protected, valued, and loved. Protected from harm, and the loss of innocence. In today’s world, protection is hard to come by. It’s a secret and very few will tell. The little one loses her way. Loses her voice, her pride, and her sense of self. She becomes a pawn, a useless kid. She learns to accept the lie, and then she dies.
